Cup Final Venues & Secretaries’ Cup

The Richard Pither cup final between Craufurd Crusaders and Ark Angels will be played at the Craufurd Arms.

The Team Trophy cup final between Craufurd Buccaneers and North Star will be played at the North Star.

Congratulations to Alan Frampton (Boundary Arms) on winning the Secretaries’ Cup competition for a second year running, beating Peter Colton of Ivy Leaf A in the final.

Singles Knockout Competition

Play proceeded as far as the quarter finals on both sides of the draw.

One semi-final will be Mike from North Star against Geoff from Bird In Hand and the other is Alan from Boundary Arms against Linda from Craufurd Buccaneers.

The semi-finals and finals will be played on Finals Night next year.

Competition Results

This week the concluding rounds and finals of the competitions were played at Desborough Bowling Club

Brian Blackmun of North Star beat Sylvie Haley of Ivy Leaf B to win the Singles competition

George Coussins and Richard Earl of Desborough made it to two finals, losing in the Presidents/Tony Blay Memorial final to Wendy and Alan Frampton of Waggon & Horses but winning in the Pairs final against Bob Barclay and Malcom Hall of Ivy Leaf B

Trophies will be presented at the AGM in August.

Due to scheduling difficulties the postponed fixture between Belgian Arms and Ark Angels will be considered void with no result.

Competition Finals

The outstanding competition rounds will be played next Monday, July 24th at Desborough. Since one pair is in the semi-finals for both the Pairs and the Presidents we’ll will make an earlier than usual start to improve the chances of completing everything the same night

The matches will be played in three waves which have been selected for the least amount of blocking where people are needed for more than one competition or waiting where someone needs to play the winners of a game being played on the night

Wave 1

Pairs Quarter (7.30pm start): David & Paul (Ark Angels) vs Joey & Debbie (Ivy Leaf A)

Singles Final (8pm start): Brian (North Star) vs Sylvie (Ivy Leaf B)

Presidents Semi (7.30pm start): George & Richard (Desborough B) vs Jim & Chris (Belgian Arms/Bridge House)

Wave 2

Presidents Final: Wendy & Alan (Waggon & Horses/Boundary Arms) vs semi winners

Pairs Semi: Winner of Pairs Quarter vs Bob & Malcolm (Ivy Leaf A)

Pairs Semi: George & Richard (Desborough B) vs Brian & Geoff (North Star) (if George and Richard are also in the Presidents Final, the final will be played first)

Wave 3

Pairs Final: both semi winners from wave 2

If George & Richard win their Presidents Semi-Final, the Presidents Final will still take place immediately after, taking precedence over their Pairs Semi-Final. That’ll allow the most people to have a game in either wave 1 or wave 2.

Obviously there’s a chance we won’t get as far as the Pairs Final depending who wins the various semi-finals and how many matches go to three games. If that happens, I will suggest finishing off the following night at Desborough since that’s the Winter Registration Meeting

Good luck to all the competitors!

President’s Competition

Wendy and Alan Frampton of Waggon & Horses progressed all the way to the final where they will meet the winners of the semi-final to be played in July between Jim McDonnell and Chris Howard of Belgian Arms versus George Coussins and Richard Earl of Desborough B. Congratulations to all concerned!

Pairs Competition & Richard Pither RIP

The Pairs Competition was played this evening. As usual, it reached the semi-finals in most streams with one quarter final to play. The outstanding matches will be played on Finals Night at Desborough in July.

One semi-final will be between George & Richard of Desborough B vs Brian and Geoff of North Star.

The quarter final is between David & Paul of Ark Angels vs Joey & Debbie of Ivy Leaf A. The winner of this game will play Bob & Malcolm also of Ivy Leaf A.

It is with deepest regret that we learned of the death over the weekend of Richard Pither, past secretary of Maidenhead & District Cribbage League. Richard was secretary of the League for around 20 years, standing down in 2010.

Despite failing health Richard remained an active member of the local cribbage community especially at the Bird In Hand in Henley where he was the team captain for many years.

The League extends its sympathies to his family and will continue to honour his memory through the Richard Pither Challenge Trophy, one of two knockout team competitions held during the winter season.
