Ark Raiders withdraws from league

The Ark Raiders have decided to withdraw from the league due to difficulties in getting a team together.

Their future fixtures will become byes for the opposition and the league standings will be updated to take out the Ark Raiders’ results so far (per rule 2.15 in the Constitution).

Looking for a team?

Are you a crib player who’d like to get back into regular play?

Some of the league teams are keen to bolster their numbers and can offer regular opportunities to play on Monday nights.

If you’re interested get in touch with me at alan AT chorazin DOT org and let me know which area you’d like to play in so I can suggest the nearest teams who are recruiting.

Thanks,

Alan

Barley Mow withdraws from Winter 2016/7 season

Faced with the prospect of not being able to field a team for the second week in a row the Barley Mow have now taken the decision to withdraw from the season.

Accordingly all their fixtures now become Byes and when we come to draw out the fixtures for the first round of cup games we will have all 14 teams playing each other and then rank those results to put 8 teams in the Team Trophy and 6 teams in the Richard Pither Challenge Cup. There are a few different ways we could handle 6 teams there so I’ll table that for discussion at the next meeting. At the moment I favour having all six play each other and the two bottom teams overall across those results drop out, so one lucky team will lose but still go through by being the highest losers.

Since this now means there are 14 teams some people may wonder why we don’t reschedule the league around those 14 to eliminate the Byes. This would have a potential saving of four weeks on the schedule however with one week gone and probably two by the time I could get it ready and communicated to everyone I don’t think the chaos and upheaval it would cause is worth a two week saving.

Since we have two teams with a Bye each week, they have the option of playing each other in a friendly game. To assist with this the table below lists the Bye teams for each week. Let me stress that this is NOT an official schedule – if these fixtures take place they are friendly games and outside of the league. On the plus side, no pennies need to be collected either and the result does not need to be reported.

All team captains affected before the next meeting have been notified. Others will be made aware at that meeting in the event they haven’t already seen this news item.

Thatched Cottage withdraws from Winter 2016/7 Season

The Thatched Cottage team has withdrawn from the Winter League.

The schedule for the season is unchanged other than games versus Thatched Cottage becoming a bye fixture.

In the Team Trophy/RIchard Pither Cup competitions the top eight teams after the first cup game will go into the Team Trophy and the lower seven into the Richard Pither Cup. Reminder – the first cup game must be played to a win/lose result so a tiebreaker may be needed. In addition, one of the seven teams in the Richard Pither Cup will get a bye past the first elimination round.

I’ll get in touch with all the team captains who have fixtures against Thatched Cottage between the start of the season and the first league meeting.

Notes From Tonight’s Meeting

Alan Foskett for New Inn won the Secretary’s Cup, defeating Greg Holden of Ark Angels.

Barley Mow conceded their outstanding fixture against Waggon due to a scheduling issue, with the result that Waggon are definitely promoted. The Belgian Arms will also be promoted unless they lose their outstanding fixture by a score of 13-3 or worse.

Six teams registered for the Summer League so this will go ahead. The teams are Bird In Hand, Craufurd Arms (2), Waggon/New Inn, North Star and Ark.

A reminder that the meeting on May 17 is cancelled. The next meeting will be Trophy Return/Summer Kickoff on May 31.

Cup Qualifiers Round 2

The draw for the second round of cup qualifier games is (home team first):-

Cookham Social v Bird In Hand

Ivy B v Waggon

Thatched Cottage v Ivy A

Desborough B v Barley Mow

North Star v Bourne End

New Inn v Craufurd Buccaneers

Craufurd Crusaders v Desborough A

Ark Angels v Belgian Arms

The Ark Raiders have a bye.

It was agreed between the teams concerned to modify the 11-5 result recorded for Barley Mow’s win over Craufurd Crusaders in week 4 to 10-6. This will show up in next week’s tables (and already missed the deadline for the tables in this week’s Advertiser)

Winter Season Registration

Registration for the winter 2015/6 season took place tonight.

So far 16 of last year’s 17 teams have registered and I am currently waiting to hear from the last one.

There are some venue and name changes coming up.

The Rose team moves to the Craufurd Arms and will be the Craufurd Buccaneers.

The Craufurd Arms team of last year remain there and will be the Craufurd Crusaders.

Last year’s Waggon A will be playing out of the New Inn.

Last year’s Waggon B will still be playing at the Waggon and will therefore just be named ‘Waggon’.

UPDATE: The last team has now confirmed their registration, so the leagues will be the same shape as last year, built on 2×10 with one bye in Division 2 and two in Division 1

Summer League Reminder

Reminder – to run the Summer League we need six teams. Four are registered so far, with almost enough people to combine to form a fifth.

If any more teams wish to enter or any people would like to be joined up with a team for summer please get in touch via team captains before Friday this week.
