There will be a memorial service for David Morris, late captain of Craufurd Crusaders, at All saints church on Friday 5th October at 12 noon and reception at the Con club after. All Welcome.
All 13 teams from the 2017/18 season have re-registered although there are a couple of home venue changes. These will be covered in the team contact details sheet distributed at the AGM along with changes in team captains.
There may be a 14th team; I was advised of a new team intending to register however they didn’t show up to register. I’m now waiting to hear back from the contact whether they still intend to register.
In any case, the league structure will be the same as the past season and a similar length.
I’m sad to announce that John Bannister, formerly a player and past captain of the Craufurd Arms crib teams, passed away on July 7th.
There is an announcement on page 71 of the current edition of the Maidenhead Advertiser.
A reminder that registration for the next season takes place at Desborough Bowling Club on July 24th from 8pm. The usual fee of £30 will be payable.
Those teams holding cups or shields from the previous season are reminded these need to be returned on July 24th or earlier by arrangement. These are:-

The Ark Raiders have decided to withdraw from the league due to difficulties in getting a team together.
Their future fixtures will become byes for the opposition and the league standings will be updated to take out the Ark Raiders’ results so far (per rule 2.15 in the Constitution).
Are you a crib player who’d like to get back into regular play?
Some of the league teams are keen to bolster their numbers and can offer regular opportunities to play on Monday nights.
If you’re interested get in touch with me at alan AT chorazin DOT org and let me know which area you’d like to play in so I can suggest the nearest teams who are recruiting.
The Belgian Arms team is moving to Bridge House, Paley Street SL6 3JS due to the impending closure of the Belgian Arms. Team captain details are unchanged
The funeral will be on March 2nd. Please contact me if you plan to attend and need the place/time.
Faced with the prospect of not being able to field a team for the second week in a row the Barley Mow have now taken the decision to withdraw from the season.
Accordingly all their fixtures now become Byes and when we come to draw out the fixtures for the first round of cup games we will have all 14 teams playing each other and then rank those results to put 8 teams in the Team Trophy and 6 teams in the Richard Pither Challenge Cup. There are a few different ways we could handle 6 teams there so I’ll table that for discussion at the next meeting. At the moment I favour having all six play each other and the two bottom teams overall across those results drop out, so one lucky team will lose but still go through by being the highest losers.
Since this now means there are 14 teams some people may wonder why we don’t reschedule the league around those 14 to eliminate the Byes. This would have a potential saving of four weeks on the schedule however with one week gone and probably two by the time I could get it ready and communicated to everyone I don’t think the chaos and upheaval it would cause is worth a two week saving.
Since we have two teams with a Bye each week, they have the option of playing each other in a friendly game. To assist with this the table below lists the Bye teams for each week. Let me stress that this is NOT an official schedule – if these fixtures take place they are friendly games and outside of the league. On the plus side, no pennies need to be collected either and the result does not need to be reported.
All team captains affected before the next meeting have been notified. Others will be made aware at that meeting in the event they haven’t already seen this news item.

The Thatched Cottage team has withdrawn from the Winter League.
The schedule for the season is unchanged other than games versus Thatched Cottage becoming a bye fixture.
In the Team Trophy/RIchard Pither Cup competitions the top eight teams after the first cup game will go into the Team Trophy and the lower seven into the Richard Pither Cup. Reminder – the first cup game must be played to a win/lose result so a tiebreaker may be needed. In addition, one of the seven teams in the Richard Pither Cup will get a bye past the first elimination round.
I’ll get in touch with all the team captains who have fixtures against Thatched Cottage between the start of the season and the first league meeting.
