Trophies will be presented at the AGM in August.

Due to scheduling difficulties the postponed fixture between Belgian Arms and Ark Angels will be considered void with no result.

Cup Fixtures and other news from tonight’s meeting

The cup draws are as follows (home team first):-

Ark Raiders vs North Star

Bird In Hand vs Desborough A

and

Ivy Leaf A vs Bourne End

Waggon & Horses vs Belgian Arms

It was proposed that the trophies awarded for the team knockout competition be exchanged as a mark of respect to the late Richard Pither thus the Richard Pither Challenge Cup will be awarded to the winners of the top half of the competition and the Team Trophy awarded to the winners of the lower half of the competition.

This will need to be ratified via a constitution change at the next AGM but was generally agreed.

There are currently 26 entries out of a possible 32 for the President’s/Tony Blay Memorial competition so any additional entries should be advised to me within the next week.

Cup Draws

Here are the draws for the next round of the cup competitions (home team first)

Craufurd Crusaders vs Desborough A

Notes from tonight’s meeting

Here are the cup games for the first round. Teams are reminded that if there is an 8-8 result after the normal match a tiebreaker must be played (one game or three games as agreed between the captains)

Home Away
Ark Angels Craufurd Crusaders
Desborough A Waggon & Horses
Bourne End Bird In Hand
New Inn Ark Raiders
Ivy Leaf B Belgian Arms
North Star Desborough B
Craufurd Buccaneers Ivy Leaf A

The seven winning teams plus the highest loser will go into the Team Trophy.

Six teams will go into the Richard Pither Challenge Cup and will play each other in the quarter-finals with all three winners and the higher loser proceeding to the semi-finals.

It was agreed that if both teams agree in advance a match can begin at 8pm rather than 8.30pm. This will be proposed as a constitution amendment at the next AGM.

There are currently 50 entries for the Singles competition with one team left to provider their numbers, so a few more could be fitted in whilst still remaining below 64. Let me know if you wish to make any additional entries.

Barley Mow withdraws from Winter 2016/7 season

Faced with the prospect of not being able to field a team for the second week in a row the Barley Mow have now taken the decision to withdraw from the season.

Accordingly all their fixtures now become Byes and when we come to draw out the fixtures for the first round of cup games we will have all 14 teams playing each other and then rank those results to put 8 teams in the Team Trophy and 6 teams in the Richard Pither Challenge Cup. There are a few different ways we could handle 6 teams there so I’ll table that for discussion at the next meeting. At the moment I favour having all six play each other and the two bottom teams overall across those results drop out, so one lucky team will lose but still go through by being the highest losers.

Since this now means there are 14 teams some people may wonder why we don’t reschedule the league around those 14 to eliminate the Byes. This would have a potential saving of four weeks on the schedule however with one week gone and probably two by the time I could get it ready and communicated to everyone I don’t think the chaos and upheaval it would cause is worth a two week saving.

Since we have two teams with a Bye each week, they have the option of playing each other in a friendly game. To assist with this the table below lists the Bye teams for each week. Let me stress that this is NOT an official schedule – if these fixtures take place they are friendly games and outside of the league. On the plus side, no pennies need to be collected either and the result does not need to be reported.

All team captains affected before the next meeting have been notified. Others will be made aware at that meeting in the event they haven’t already seen this news item.

Thatched Cottage withdraws from Winter 2016/7 Season

The Thatched Cottage team has withdrawn from the Winter League.

The schedule for the season is unchanged other than games versus Thatched Cottage becoming a bye fixture.

In the Team Trophy/RIchard Pither Cup competitions the top eight teams after the first cup game will go into the Team Trophy and the lower seven into the Richard Pither Cup. Reminder – the first cup game must be played to a win/lose result so a tiebreaker may be needed. In addition, one of the seven teams in the Richard Pither Cup will get a bye past the first elimination round.

I’ll get in touch with all the team captains who have fixtures against Thatched Cottage between the start of the season and the first league meeting.

May Meetings – Reminder

This is a reminder to all team captains that the meeting scheduled for May 17 is cancelled since it was agreed at the last AGM that summer registration would take place at the preceding meeting which was held in April.

The May 31 meeting will go ahead and will include distribution of summer fixtures for registered teams (seven are registered at present, so if anyone wants to enter an eighth let me know as soon as possible), return of the remaining trophies and payment of monies owing for games since April or not paid at the April meeting.

At the moment it looks like there may be one less team registering for the next winter season which will mean there are 16 teams (unless a potential new team registers making it 17 again). This does mean that I’ll be able to schedule a season without any Byes however it also means the season will be shorter by four weeks (although this will be offset by the season needing to start slightly later due to the summer league) and also means there will need to be an adjustment in the number of teams promoted and demoted.

Since the team that may not register is in Division 1 and the current sizes were Division 1=8 and Division 2=9 this would mean that the sizes become 7 and 9 so an adjustment is needed. Normally two teams are demoted or promoted. *IF* the situation I anticipate does happen both teams from Division 2 will be promoted to Division 1 however only the bottom team from Division 1 will be demoted which will get both league sizes to 8 and 8.
